Day 1 - Lima
International flight arrival to Lima. Private airport transfer to your hotel with hotel lobby welcome greeting, Peru orientation, and welcome gift from Dargui Tours' travel adviser (Welcome may be following morning depending on time of arrival). Overnight stay.
Day 2 - Get to Know Lima (optional day)
After included hotel breakfast, morning or evening half-day Peruvian Cuisine Gastronomic Tour (5 hours) with reception at your hotel.
Whether you select the morning or evening culinary tour, you will be treated to a comprehensive introduction to Peruvian food at multiple sites in Lima with some participatory elements. Endlessly complex and constantly changing, the cuisine in Lima is a food-lovers dream. On the menu will be a Peruivan coffee, a demonstration of the Pisco sour and ceviche, tastes of the Amazon, and some delectable Peruvian sweets. Overnight at your hotel in Lima.
Day 3 - Arrival _& Welcome to Cusco
Early morning reception and transfer to Airport and transfer to your Hotel in Cusco. Free morning. Because of the high altitude it is advisable that you take a short rest to acclimatize.
Optional free afternoon in Cusco to rest and acclimatize or private half-day Cuzco Tour. Your tour will highlight Cusco’s historic past and blend of Incan and Spanish architecture. The excursion features walk-thru tours of the Cathedral and the ruins of Koricancha .You will also explore the four main ruins just outside the city: the Sacsayhuaman Fortress, Kenko, Puca Pucara, and Tambomachay. Return to hotel in Cusco for overnight stay.
Day 4 - Start of Your Trekking Journey
After breakfast at your hotel, transfer from your hotel with morning stops at the Inca ruins of Tarawasi. the mountain village of Mollepata, and an Andean farmhouse. In the afternoon you will take a winding mountain road to a site called Challacancha. Here you will begin your hike to Soraypampa along a path called the “Camino Real”, which is also a good opportunity to acclimate to the higher altitude. As you round the final turn of the Camino Real, the Salkantay Lodge will come into view. Overnight at dinner at the lodge.
Day 5 - Trek to Lake Humantay
After breakfast, you begin an ascent up the slopes that border the plateau behind the Salkantay Lodge. This will begin to test your acclimatization. An hour and a half later, you will be stunned to see the turquoise water of the Lake Humantay.
Here you will have a chance to relax take in the tranquility, and be part of a traditional offering to “Pachamama” (Mother Earth). After your descent back to the lodge, a fresh lunch will be waiting. The rest of the day is at leisure while acclimatizing. You'll have options to soak in a jacuzzi, indulge in a relaxing massage or take a long nap.
Day 5 - Crossing Salkantay Pass
After an early start, trek up the Rio Blanco Valley that circles Humantay Peak past expansive plateaus The final and most challenging part of your ascent are a series of switchbacks that takes you to the vistas of Salkantay Pass, the highest point on the trek (4,636 m/15,213 ft).
We'll begin the dramatic descent on the other side of the pass towards Wayraccmachay. After a hot picnic lunch, you will continue down through pastoral, rolling hills and marsh-like plateaus towards Wayra Lodge. Dinner and welcome to the lodge before overnight.
Day 6 - Descent to the Cloud Forest
After breakfast at Wayra Lodge, you continue the descent along the banks of the Salkantay River through verdant scenery. The trek will take you past humble Andean dwellings and communities which have existed here for centuries.
By lunch time you will arrive at Colpa Lodge, located on a high promontory at the confluence of three rivers. A very special welcome Pachamanca lunch, a traditional Peruvian meal cooked in the earth by hot stones that create a natural underground oven. After lunch, spend the afternoon enjoying the sun or relaxing in the jacuzzi while you take in the panoramic views of the mountains that surround you
Day 7 - Journey Past the Santa Teresa River
After breakfast, begin the journey past the Santa Teresa River Valley where you will pass a series of small streams fed by waterfalls descending from nearby glaciers and cross through several fruit orchards. After a hot picnic lunch by the river,a brief trek will take us to a transfer point by MLP vehicle for a short drive to the beginning of the Llactapata Inca Trail. .After a further trek on this trail used by the Inca people, you will pass an organic coffee plantation, one of many in that area that produces some of the best organic coffee in the world.
In Lucmabamba, the warmer air will indicate our arrival to the edge of the high jungle. We will arrive to the stunning Lucma Lodge in the afternoon before relaxation and dinner.
Day 8 - Excursion to Llactapata Pass
After breakfast, trek up a path mostly comprised of original Inca steps, where you will get a sense hiking through a rainforest. The first milestone will be the top of a pass, the last one before you reach the Aobamaba River valley before Machu Picchu. When you arrive at the Inca ruins of Llactapata at the Llactapata Pass (2,736 m/8,974 ft), you will get a glimpse view of the back of the Machu Picchu ruins.
Further down the trail,. we will enjoy lunch in a meado and the final descent will take you through lush bamboo forests, until the trail's end at Hidroelectrica train station. A one-hour scenic train ride delivers you to your final stop, the town of Aguas Calientes at the base of Machu Picchu.
Day 9 - Exploring Machu Picchu
At dawn, you begin your journey to Machu Picchu with a short uphill bus ride where you'll arrive at this fabled wonder of the world. You'll be guided for two hours as you tour this Inca citadel perched high on a mountain plateau. You'll have two additional hours to explore by yourself and may choose a hike to Huayna Picchu. After a descent and lunch in Aguas Calientes, a train transfer back will return you to Cusco. and overnight at your hotel.
Please note - One this final 4-hour train ride for your return to Cusco, your tickets via the VistaDome train will be included. Day 10 - Return to Lima
After morning breakfast at your hotel, private reception and transfer to your Cusco airport and arrival to Lima with connection to final international destination in Lima (depending on flight time).. Please speak with your travel adviser about additional options for a night in Lima and extension of services.
